Today I have assembled the GR8Bit Slot Board. This is the second step in creating your own GR8Bit computer. Please watch this introducing video:
As you can see, this is a simple board, that will allow you to put the slot connectors somewhere in your computer housing that is accessable from the outside.
First you have to solder all the via’s on the PCB. On this board there are only 4. After the via’s It you can solder the resistor packs. Be aware of pin 1, cause the resistor pack RN1 is in a different possition than the other 2.
After the resistor packs you can solder the capacitors.
Now you can solder all the connectors. I started with the 50-pin connector on the component side. Fit the connector on the PCB and solder pin 1 & 50. After these 2 pins the connector will stay in place so you can solder the other pins.
After this connector do the same with the other connectors on the back of the PCB. Last solder the 3 & 4 pin connector.
It took me 20 minutes to assamble this board. Its quite straight forward, but be aware of the location of the notch on the 5- pin connector.
Check back soon for more updates.
